Pink eye can be contagious or noncontagious, depending on the cause. Viral pink eye treatment: Applying a warm compress using a pad of sterile cotton may also soothe the eye, reducing the desire to itch the eye, which only increases the soreness.
Bacteria such as Chlamydia trachomatis or Moraxella can cause a non-exudative but persistent conjunctivitis without much redness. The gritty and/or scratchy feeling is sometimes localized enough for patients to insist they must have a foreign body in the eye. Be careful not to use medication prescribed for someone else, or from an old infection, as these may be inappropriate for your current infection or may have been contaminated from other infections by accidentally touching the medicine bottle to infected areas.
