Information about gerd

Information from the emptying study can be useful for managing patients with GERD. If you feel like having any of gerd symptoms you should consult your doctor. For example, if a patient with GERD continues to have symptoms despite treatment with the usual medications, doctors might prescribe other medications that speed-up emptying of the stomach. Alternatively, in conjunction with GERD surgery, they might do a surgical procedure that promotes a more rapid emptying of the stomach. Specialized tests are available, such as 24-hour esophageal pH monitoring, which measures the acid content in the esophagus. The patient documents asthma symptoms which are then matched with the esophageal acid events to confirm the diagnosis.
It can also be used to monitor the effectiveness of reflux therapy.
